Bihan Das is an artist based in Santiniketan, West Bengal. A printmaker, he specialized in the medium during his BFA (2016-2020) and his MFA (2020-2022) from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati Currently he is a research scholar at the department of humanities and social sciences, IIT Kanpur(2023-....).Apart from working with traditional printmaking mediums (planography, intaglio, relief & stencil), he has been experimenting with the intersections of manual and digital image-making, working to mold digital practices with the existing mediums. He has also been interested in developing techniques of non-toxic printmaking practices due to his own health restrictions, and to gauge the feasibility of such non-toxic practices within the realm of traditional printmaking. Bihan’s work attempts to transcribe or translate the memories of the land, its people and himself as one within them and without. His works are tied to sites and their inhabitants where he attempts to invoke site specificity as an acknowledgement and a mode of storytelling rather than a structural intervention. His interventions often take an introspective shape through audio-visual and textual forms, including zines, books and alternative photography.
